First Look Photos For Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks WWII Drama MASTERS OF THE AIR Starring Austin Butler
Apple has released a collection of photos for Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks’ upcoming World War II drama series Masters of the Air. Along with producer Gary Goetzman, this is the same producing team that brought us Band of Brothers and The Pacific, and I’ve been looking forward to watching this. These photos offer a first look at the characters in the story.
Goetzman said in a statement: “Masters of the Air is a salute to the brave men of the 8th Air Force, who, through their courage and brotherhood, helped defeat Nazi Germany in World War II. Tom and Steven have always wanted to visualize cinematically what our author Don Miller has called, this ‘singular event in the history of warfare.’ We’re thrilled that Apple TV+ has given us the opportunity to combine the efforts of so many talented people, on-screen and behind the camera, to tell this important story.”
Based on the book of the same name by Donald L. Miller, Masters of the Air follows the true story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep. During the war, “the airmen risk their lives with the 100th Bomb Group, a brotherhood forged by courage, loss, and triumph.”
Austin Butler stars in the series as Major Gale Cleven alongside Barry Keoghan as Lt. Curtis Biddick and Callum Turner as Major John Egan. The large ensemble cast also features Anthony Boyle as Major Harry Crosby, Nate Mann as Major Robert Rosenthal, and Raff Law as Sgt. Ken Lemmons.
Written by John Orloff, Masters of the Air is produced by Apple Studios, Hanks and Goetzman’s Playtone, and Spielberg’s Amblin Television. Executive producer Cary Joji Fukunaga directed multiple episodes, along with Dee Rees and the duo of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.
The show is set to debut its first two episodes on the streaming platform on Friday, January 26th, 2024, followed by one new episode every Friday through March 15, 2024.
