First Photos of Alicia Vikander in Olivier Assayas’s Adapted Series IRMA VEP
A few first look photos have been released of actress Alicia Vikander in the starring role of Irma Vep in the series based on the 1996 film written and directed by Olivier Assayas. The movie premiered at Cannes film festival, and the TV adaptation by Assayas is doing the same in an unprecedented move, as the festival has only ever accepted film submissions in the past.
The reimagined eight-part limited series stars Vikander along with Devon Ross, Carrie Brownstein, Adria Arjona, and Tom Sturridge.
Vogue reports, “In this new version, like in the film, a major movie star signs on to lead an adaptation of Les Vampires, Louis Feuillade’s silent film serial from 1915-1916. (“Irma Vep” is a character, and her name, a clever anagram.) Helming the production is the brilliant but mercurial René Vidal, and as the chaotic shoot goes on, the lines between fact and fiction, actor and character, become dangerously blurred. But unlike Cheung, who played a version of herself, Vikander plays Mira, an American actress keen to change the direction of her career—and shake off a recent tabloid scandal.“
Check out the photos from the series above and below, and catch Irma Vep when it hits HBO and HBO Max on June 6th.
