First Photo and Synopsis For THE RAID Director's Cult Thriller APOSTLE
The director of The Raid films, Gareth Evans has been working on a new cult thriller film project called Apostle, and today we get our first photo and a synopsis. I loved The Raid films; they are two of the greatest, most badass action movies ever made, and based on those films, I'm crazy excited to see this next film of his. The image above shows us that the cult has a good turn out.
The movie stars Dan Stevens (Legion) in the lead role. Then there's Michael Sheen (Passengers) and Lucy Boynton (Sing Street) taking on supporting roles. The movie revolves around a mysterious cult on an island, and this is the synopsis that was revealed on XYZ Films page:
The year is 1905. Thomas Richardson travels to a remote island to rescue his sister after she’s kidnapped by a mysterious religious cult demanding a ransom for her safe return. It soon becomes clear that the cult will regret the day it baited this man, as he digs deeper and deeper into the secrets and lies upon which the commune is built.
We already knew most of that and just because Evans is known for his incredible action films, doesn't mean this is going to be one. In fact, Stevens previously told Empire that it's not a Kung Fu movie. Here's how he described it:
"It’s not a kung fu film, sadly. I hope to make a kung fu film with him one day, but this is not it. It’s a dark thriller set on a religious cult on an island in 1905, and it’s about a man who’s going to rescue his sister."
Look, even if the movie isn't going to have any hardcore ballistic action, it still sounds like an intriguing, intense story that will entertain audiences and fans. I can't wait to see how the story for this film unfolds on the big screen!
