First Photo of Tom Hardy as Al Capone in Josh Trank's New Film FONZO

Believe it or not, the director of Fantastic Four, Josh Trank, actually got to make another movie after that fiasco. The film is called Fonzo and today we have our first look at Tom Hardy in the film who plays Al "Fonzo" Capone. Hardy shared the image on Instagram.

The story takes place near the end of Capone's career and begins when he's 47 years-old after he spent over 10 years in prison. Here's a brief description of the film:

A ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist, Al “Fonzo” Capone (Hardy) was the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore. At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Capone’s mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life.

This is a time in Capone's life that has never really been explored before so it should make for an interesting story and film. Capone spent the final years of his life in Florida and it wasn't easy for him. He ended up getting syphilis and because it was untreated for years his mind ended up deteriorating. Near the end of his life, he had the mental capacity of a child and he would apparently spend lots of time talking to his dead associates. Capone died in 1947.

The movie also stars Linda Cardellini as Capone’s long-suffering wife Mae, Matt Dillon as his closest friend Johnny, Kyle MacLachlan as his doctor Karlock, and Kathrine Narducci as Rosie, one of his sisters.

I'm looking forward to watching this movie, so I hope that it actually turns out to be good! It's a got a great cast and deals with some fascinating subject matter, so we'll just have to wait and see if Trank is able to deliver a solid film.
