First Reactions and Spoiler Details For JOKER: FOLIE À DEUX Surface From Test Screenings
A few reactions have surfaced online for director Todd Phillips' Joker: Folie à Deux from people who have attended press screenings. The reactions that have been shared are positive, and there are even some spoiler details that have surfaced.
The version that has been screened is said to have "some editing and script issues that need to be resolved," but all in all, audiences were impressed. The first round of reactions were shared by Joey Monda on X:
"The film is super bloody, chaotic, aggressive, surrealistic, but somehow true to its essence. Gaga and Joaquin are on the same level in performance."
"The musical aspect is not presented in a conventional way. They sing, of course, but it works in a different pattern. Very risky, but f*cking genius."
“Overall, the film seeks to balance itself to captivate both critics and the general public."
Then JoBlo offered up some additional details that get into some spoiler territory, so proceed with caution.
Lady Gaga’s version of Harley Quinn is "equal to Phoenix or even more central" to the story. It’s said that Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck never refers to her as Harley, "but a nickname derived from it." The characters reportedly "perform songs as a duet, and some are just her singing. Songs are a mix of old and new."
It’s also revealed that "Famous characters appear in it. Some changes to lore since these movies are standalone from certain other DC franchises.”
There are no details regarding what characters show up, so we can only speculate as to who shows up until we see the movie for ourselves.
The movie also stars Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond, with Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Brendan Gleeson who will be playing undisclosed characters.
Warner Bros. will release the film in theaters on October 4th, 2024.
