First Superman Comic Book Sells for $3.2 Million
Action Comics No. 1 is the first Superman comic ever, and a pristine edition of it recently sold for $3.2 million in an auction that was conducted on ebay. The bidding ended on Sunday night with a total of 48 bids.
The comic was auctioned off by collectibles dealer Darren Adams who called it, “the Mona Lisa of comics and stands alone as the most valuable comic book ever printed. He also said that it is "The finest known copy of the most sought after comic book in the world. A 1938 museum piece with PERFECT WHITE pristine pages." It received a grade of 9.0 from the Certified Guaranty Company.
The comic was put up for auction on August 14th, and the bidding began at $1 million. Apparently there are only about 50 unrestored original copies of Action Comics No. 1 still in existence.
The final selling price makes this the most expensive comic book in the world. I can't even imagine what it would be like to drop $3.2 million on a comic book.
