First Trailer For Kristen Stewart's Directorial Debut THE CHRONOLOGY OF WATER Starring Imogen Poots

The international trailer for The Chronology of Water has been released, after the film’s 2025 Cannes Film Festival debut. The movie stars Imogen Poots, Thora Birch, Earl Cave, Tom Sturridge, Kim Gordon, and Jim Belushi.

The project marks the directorial debut of actress Kristen Stewart, from a screenplay written by Stewart and Andy Mingo, adapted from Lidia Yuknavitch's memoir of the same name.

The synopsis reads: “Brought up in an environment torn apart by violence and alcohol, Lidia Yuknavitch seemed destined for self-destruction & failure until words offered her unexpected freedom through literature.

The Chronology of Water, adapted from Yuknavitch’s autobiographical bestseller, follows Lidia’s journey to find her own voice in an exploration of how trauma can be transformed into art through re-possessing our own bloody histories, particularly those uniquely experienced by bodies of women and girls.”

This is one of those trailers that doesn’t give you a lot to go on, but I’m a fan of Stewart and Poots, so I’m willing to give it a shot.

Check out the trailer below, and watch The Chronology of Water when it hits select US theatres in January 2026.
