First Trailer for Musical Film Adaption DEAR EVAN HANSEN Starring Ben Platt
The first trailer has been released for the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen starring Ben Platt, who is returning to his Tony-winning lead role in the musical created by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Wonder) directed the film from a script by Steven Levenson, who wrote the book that inspired the stage musical. The cast also includes Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart), Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give), Amy Adams (American Hustle, Arrival), and Julianne Moore (Crazy, Stupid, Love, Still Alice).
Dear Evan Hansen follows Evan Hansen, an anxious and isolated high school student who writes letters to himself. Evan’s classmate Connor Murphy gets a hold of one of his letters and dies by suicide with the note in his pocket, leading Connor’s parents to believe it was a suicide note addressed to Evan. Soon, Evan gets caught in a complicated lie, pretending to have been Connor’s friend and forming a fabricated relationship with the Murphy family.
The musical opened on Broadway in 2016 and quickly became a fan favorite. I never got to see it on stage, but have been a fan of the soundtrack for years. This trailer made me emotional, and I am excited to see how the whole story plays out. Check out the trailer below, and watch Dear Evan Hansen in theaters on September 24th.
