First Trailer for South African Remake of THE OFFICE Titled DIE KANTOOR
The first trailer has been released for the South African remake of the fan-favorite series The Office, which started in the UK in 2001, running for three seasons, before being remade in the US in 2005, and running for nine seasons.
The US version ended up becoming one of the most popular series of all time, still being watched by fans in syndication as well as streaming.
African streamer Showmax has unveiled the first trailer for Die Kantoor, the Afrikaans-language adaptation of the globally successful format The Office, licensed by BBC Studios.
Albert Pretorius (Niggies, Nêrens, Noord-Kaap) is stepping into the legendary manager role that previously earned both Ricky Gervais and Steve Carell Golden Globe awards — as David Brent in the British original and Michael Scott in the U.S. version, respectively. This boss’s name is Flip, and he is the the manager at polony distributors Deluxe Processed Meats.
He is joined by Schalk Bezuidenhout (Kanarie, Hotel), Ilse Oppelt (Oh Schuks I’m Gatvol, Fishy Fêshuns), Carl Beukes (Jozi, The Shakedown), Daniah de Villiers (Mia and the White Lion), Mehboob Bawa (Bhai’s Cafe), former KFM radio presenter Sipumziwe Lucwaba, veteran Lida Botha (Die Kwiksilvers) and newcomer Gert du Plessis.
TV channel kykNET will preview the opening episode at on African broadcaster DStv on January 18th, ahead of the Showmax double-bill premiere on January 20th. Subsequent episodes will roll out weekly on both platforms.
