The film is directed by Marc Meyers (My Friend Dahmer) from a script adapted by Oren Moverman (Love & Mercy), based on the novel by Stephen Amidon.

As perspectives shift between parents and their children, an impulsive business deal brings together two families from across the social divide, with tragic consequences.
