Florence Pugh Set to Star in Adaptation of Matt Haig Novel THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY With Garth Davis Directing

Florence Pugh is to star in and produce the film The Midnight Library, the long-awaited adaptation of Matt Haig’s bestselling novel.

Studiocanal and Blueprint Pictures, who first optioned the book in 2020, have also hired Garth Davis (Lion) to direct the feature, from a screenplay by Olivier-winning Laura Wade (Rivals, The Riot Club) and Olivier and Tony nominee Nick Payne (We Live in Time, The Sense of an Ending).

The film is set to go into pre-production this autumn, with shooting to commence at the start of 2027. Studiocanal is launching worldwide sales at the 2026 Cannes market.

In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself in a library between life and death with the chance to experience all the potential lives she could have lived. The story serves as allegorical exploration of mental health, focusing on depression, suicide and regret.

First published by Canongate Books in 2020, the novel has sold 15 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 56 languages. The audiobook is read by Oscar-nominated actress Carey Mulligan.
