FOR ALL MANKIND Season 5 Trailer: Mars Pushes Back Against Earth in the Alternate 2010s

For All Mankind is gearing up for its Season 5 return, and the newly released trailer makes one thing clear: Mars isn’t interested in taking orders from Earth anymore.

The hit Apple TV+ sci-fi drama is jumping ahead to the 2010s in its alternate timeline, and the Red Planet has officially entered its rebellious phase.

Season 5 doesn’t just continue the story. It raises the stakes in a big way. This next chapter of For All Mankind picks up years after the Goldilocks asteroid heist, and life on Mars has evolved into something massive.

Happy Valley isn’t some scrappy outpost anymore. It’s a full-blown colony with thousands of residents and a launch point for deeper space missions. Humanity has stretched itself across the solar system, but progress always comes with complications.

Here’s the official logline: “Season five of ‘For All Mankind’ picks up in the 2010s, years since the Goldilocks asteroid heist. Happy Valley has grown into a thriving colony with thousands of residents and a base for new missions that will take us even further into the solar system.

“But with the nations of Earth now demanding law and order on the Red Planet, friction continues to build between the people who live on Mars and their former home.”

That friction looks like it’s about to explode.

It’s now 2012 in this alternate history, and the generational shift is front and center. Ed Baldwin’s grandson, played by Sean Kaufman, has just graduated high school and is still trying to figure out his place in a Martian society that doesn’t quite fit the old Earth rulebook.

From what we see in the trailer, younger Martians aren’t thrilled about being governed by people who live millions of miles away.

Speaking of Ed Baldwin, Joel Kinnaman is back once again, buried under heavy prosthetics to portray the now 80-something space pioneer.

Watching Kinnaman continue Ed’s journey through decades of this alternate space race remains one of the most fascinating aspects of the show. He’s seen the moon, the rise of Mars, and now he’s witnessing a potential planetary power struggle.

Season 5 also adds a major new presence to the cast. Mireille Enos joins the series as a member of the Mars peacekeeper security force. The casting reunites her with Kinnaman, her former co-star from The Killing, though this time they meet in a much more cosmic setting.

Returning cast members include Toby Kebbell, Edi Gathegi, Cynthy Wu, Coral Peña, and Wrenn Schmidt. Costa Ronin returns and has been promoted to series regular. The ensemble also grows with Sean Kaufman of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Ruby Cruz of Bottoms, and Ines Asserson of Royalteen stepping into key roles.

For those who’ve been riding with the show since the beginning, For All Mankind has always hinged on one fascinating question: What would the world look like if the Soviets had beaten the United States to the moon?

That single shift in history ignited a far more aggressive and technologically advanced space race. Decades later in this timeline, Mars hosts a thriving colony and humanity is pushing further into the solar system.

The creative team steering this ambitious saga remains intact. The series was created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi, with Wolpert and Nedivi serving as showrunners.

Season 5 will run for 10 episodes and premieres Friday, March 27, with new episodes dropping weekly through May 29.
