For Those of You Hoping for a SHAUN OF THE DEAD Sequel, Edgar Wright Isn't Going to Make One
Director Edgar Wright’s horror-comedy Shaun of the Dead was such a great movie and over the years fans have been wondering if a sequel would ever get made. Well, if you were hoping to maybe one day see Shaun of the Dead 2, Wright isn’t panning on making one… ever.
During a recent interview with SFX Magazine/Games Radar, Wright explained why he won’t make a sequel, saying:
"I haven’t gone back to horror-comedy, because with Shaun Of The Dead I felt like I had said much of what I wanted to say with that movie. It’s difficult to return to that, even as a producer. Sometimes I get sent films – people want to make the next Shaun and want me to come aboard as a producer. But I find it difficult to cover the same territory again."
Wright goes on to see that films take a long time to make, and he doesn’t want to put his time into something he is not excited about or motivated to make:
"The thing is that films take so long to make. I think that’s the thing that fans don’t quite understand sometimes. They’ll say, 'Why don’t you knock out a Shaun sequel?' It’s like, these films take three years to make, you’ve got to really, really love it to do it. So because films take longer to make, trying to challenge yourself with a different subject matter or something you haven’t done before, it’s always the real motivator."
I personally never expected to see Wright make a sequel to Shaun of the Dead. He opted to go with the Cornetto trilogy, which is more of an anthology series. The trilogy also consists of 2007's Hot Fuzz and 2013's The World's End. I’m perfectly happy with those films!
I’m also more interested in seeing Wright continue to develop new and original film projects like his upcoming horror movie Last Night in Soho, which looks great!
