For Those of You Hoping for a BRIGHTBURN Sequel, It Sounds Like It'll Eventually Happen
I know a lot of fans have been excited about the prospect of a sequel to James Gunn’s horror film Brightburn. The movie told a Superman-like origin story but with an evil and sinister twist. The powerful alien boy who crashes on Earth turns out to be a little prick hellbent on murdering people instead of helping them.
While I liked the film and thought it was well-made, it didn’t sit well with me. That being said, if the movie would have kept going after it ended I would have liked to watch the story continue. This first film set the stage for something that could be much more interesting, complex, and engaging.
As of right now, there is no sequel for the film in development, but producer James Gunn did confirm with EW that he is talking about it with the creative team, which includes director David Yarovesky and writers Brian and Mark Gunn. When asked about the sequel Gunn said:
“I think I’m tied up for the next few years with Suicide Squad and then Guardians, but we’re talking about the sequel.”
So, even though it sounds like it’ll be awhile before we see a Brightburn sequel hit theaters, the creative team is starting to come up with a story to tell, and one day I’m sure they’ll get around to making it. I imagine it will involve all of the other alien villains that were teased at the end of the movie.
What did you think about Brightburn? What would you like to see happen in the sequel?
