Former Disney Executive Predicts That Johnny Depp Will Return to Play Captain Jack Sparrow in Another Pirates Movie
Johnny Depp has completed his circus of a trial, and moving forward, we will see what his career will entail. For now, there’s a lot of speculation as to what types of projects he will want to take on, but one former Disney executive seems to think we will see Depp return to the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in another Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
This sounds ridiculous to anyone who has followed what Depp has said about the possibility of his return to the role in the recent past. During his trial, he confirmed that he had said he would never play Jack Sparrow again, even if Disney offered him "$300 million and a million alpacas" to reprise the role. That’s a lot of money, and a lot of alpacas.
But in the wake of the trial, which Depp was quoted saying gave him his life back, People magazine reported that an unnamed former Disney exec told them:
"I absolutely believe post-verdict that Pirates is primed for rebooting with Johnny as Capt. Jack back on board. There is just too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture.”
I think this former executive is overestimating how much Depp cares about box-office paydays. He is doing just fine with the career he has built for himself. If he came back to the franchise, it would be because he wanted to, and I really don’t think he wants to. Of course, stranger things have happened, so we can’t rule it out completely, but I’d be really surprised.
What do you think? Would you want to see Depp return to the role of Captain Jack Sparrow?
