Former DOCTOR WHO Showrunner Russell T Davies Writing Dystopian Family Drama For BBC
Russell T. Davies, the man responsible for the early success of the Doctor Who reboot, is coming back to television with a new drama on The BBC. Deadline reports Davies is writing a "dystopian family drama" by the name of Years and Years for the network, which sounds a bit different from the average dystopian affair.
The story begins with a busy family in Manchester in 2019 and then will follow that family 15 years into the future in addition to capturing some of the crucial moments that change the world along the way. Examples include Britain withdrawing from Europe, China asserting itself as a superpower, and America becoming an isolated nation. The story picks up with a British politician Vivienne Rook who is noted for her trickery, ability to induce terror, and as a former entertainer.
It sounds a bit politically driven with some obvious parallels to modern society, although I'm waiting to see a trailer before I make any firm judgments about this series. What do you think about it?
