Former SUPERMAN Actor Brandon Routh Shares Response to New Movie: "I Cried Three Times"

Brandon Routh is pretty familiar with the Man of Steel, having played him in Bryan Singer's 2006 film, Superman Returns. The film was on par with a lot of the movies DC churned out back then, and despite Routh’s performance, the movie was not the best Superman movie out there.

The planned sequel was scrapped, though Routh did get the opportunity to return to the role years later as the Kingdom Come version of the legendary DC Comics hero for the CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths television event.

Now Routh has returned to the theatre, this time as a member of the audience, to see the new Superman movie, and he shared his response in a new interview with Variety, where he was promoting his latest film, Ick. Routh said of James Gunn’s DC film, and its star, David Corenswet:

“It was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it. I think David [Corenswet] is fantastic. I cried no less than three times. I see this in a different way. I come at it from a different perspective.

“I really got into it as I’m watching him navigate those tricky Superman moments in the first conversation with Lois and Clark in the apartment. And then all of the family stuff for me really hit. It’s a big movie.

“There’s a lot in there. I have to go see it again. I really am excited for the potential for the DC Universe. A successful launch with this is just good for everybody who wants more of what DC has to offer. There are a lot of great properties that can be explored.”

He’s so right. DC heroes and fans deserve the treatment Marvel has been getting all these years, and Superman is a promising step in that direction.
