FOX Chairman Addresses Why They Cancelled LUCIFER and Season 3 Will End with a Cliffhanger

TV FOXLucifer by Joey Paur

After news broke that FOX had canceled Lucifer, the top trending topic on Twitter was #SaveLucifer because people loved that show! FOX chairman Gary Newman explained that Lucifer's cancellation came down to "a ratings-based decision; we had very a successful late year with all four new dramas renewed. We felt like performance-wise, we needed to make that change."

It's a shame that the series got canceled. Lucifer star Tom Ellis posted a message on social media thanking the fans for their support.

"It has been the most amazing experience over the past 3 years playing Lucifer and falling in love with you, the fans. It fills me with great sadness to confirm the rumours that some of you have been asking. Fox has indeed cancelled Lucifer. I'm so sorry guys."

The series will come to an end with tonight's finale and showrunner Joe Henderson admitted that the finale will most likely anger some fans. He explained on Twitter:

"We created a season finale with a huge cliffhanger so that there was no way Fox could cancel us. Instead, we’re going to frustrate the hell out of you fans. I’m so sorry for that."

He went on to say:

"The Lucifer finale is the best hour of television I've been lucky to write. It wraps up everything from the season. But what it teases for season 4... well, maybe, just maybe, we can Save Lucifer and show you."

I hate that Season 3 is going to end on a cliffhanger! That's gonna be frustrating. It will be interesting to see if another network or streaming service comes in to save it and keep it going for one or two more seasons. We'll have to wait and see what happens!
