Fox is Developing a Prequel To THE SANDLOT

Movie The Sandlot by Joey Paur

If you're a fan of The Sandlot, you might be happy to hear that 20th Century Fox is developing a prequel to the film. They've also brought on the original film's writer and director, David Mickey Evans, to co-write the script with Austin Reynolds.

The news comes during the film's 25th anniversary. All of these movie anniversary milestones are really starting to make me feel old. I remember going to see The Sandlot when it first came out. It's just such a fun story with great characters that you can't help but love!

There aren't a lot of details on the film’s plot, but according to Deadline, it involves the legend of The Beast. I guess if there's going to make a prequel to The Sandlot, the legend of The Beast is a good place to start! For those of you who need a reminder of The Beast, Squints tells the tale in the original film, and you can watch that scene below.

If The Beast is a part of the story, I imagine that we will see a young Mr. Mertal, who was played by James Earl Jones in the original film.

Since the first Sandlot film was released, there were two direct-to-video sequels: 2005’s The Sandlot 2, which featured an entirely new group of boys, and 2007’s The Sandlot: Heading Home, starring Luke Perry. They weren't that great, but maybe this prequel will be better!

Would you be up for watching a prequel to The Sandlot?
