FOX Is Producing an Animated Series Based on the RATS OF NIMH Book Series!
Fox is producing an animated series based on Robert C. O’Brien’s fantasy book series The Rats of NIMH. This is the same book series that inspired Don Bluth’s classic 1882 animated film The Secret of NIMH, which I loved when I was a kid! That was actually a pretty scary film for a kid, and I loved every minute of it.
The 1971 book series launched with O’Brien’s Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH and it was followed by Rasco and the Rats of NIMH and R-T, Margaret and the Rays of NIMH. The two sequels were written by O’Brien’s daughter Jane Leslie Conly.
The series follows Mrs. Frisby, “a mouse, who in an effort to save her family goes on a spectacular journey through an unfamiliar and underground world to discover a colony of escaped super-intelligent lab rats who help her on a thrilling adventure to relocate her home before the plows and exterminators arrive.”
According to Deadline, Fox is developing the project as an event series. Fox is spending a lot of time, money, and energy ramping up their animation content slate, and Rats of NIMH is one of the many projects that they have in the pipeline that I’m most excited about.
I really hope they bring on a talented animation team to bring this story to life. This could be an awesome and epic show if done right!
