Fox Producer Reveals the Network Is Looking to Make Another 24 Reboot, With Hopes of Bringing Kiefer Sutherland Back to Star
Fox just can’t seem to say goodbye to one of their biggest series, the Kiefer Sutherland led show that ran for eight seasons that each consisted of 24 episodes, each played out in the real-time hour of a critical day in the field following counter terrorist agent Jack Bauer. The series was a thrilling joyride, and the network has been looking to recreate it ever since with series like 24: Legacy, and the miniseries that Sutherland returned for, 24: Live Another Day.
It seems like an eight season series and a limited series return would be enough, but according to original series producer, Manny Coto, who recently spoke to /film while promoting his upcoming A.I. thriller series, neXT, Fox would like to press that button one more time. He said:
“All I know is they’re still interested in 24 to bring it back in some form,” Coto said. “I’m pretty sure they probably want to figure out some way to bring Kiefer back in some way.”
He went on to also talk about the 24 legal drama that had some buzz surrounding it the last year or so:
“I wasn’t involved in developing them but I know the guys who were developing them. The legal one got to a script. They just ultimately decided at the last minute, like any pilot, they decided it just wasn’t right. I don’t know much further than that. I think they just got to a script and decided it wasn’t working.”
He went on to confirm:
“There is another one I believe in development. There was a counterterrorism one in development and I think that’s still in development. I talked to Howard Gordon not long ago. I think they’re still working on coming up with an idea. I don’t know how far along they are or where it is but I know it’s not going away.”
So that sounds pretty definite! I think if they do decide to bring back the series with a fresh spin, it would probably take off best with Kiefer Sutherland in the driver seat. What do you think? Would you be excited to see another story featuring Jack Bauer?
