Frank Grillo Calls CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Marvel's "Best" and Says He Hopes They Can Get Back to That Glory
Frank Grillo has made the jump from recurring Marvel character who met an untimely end to recurring DC character who is having a blast playing around in that universe.
The actor hasn’t been shy about his preference for the way things are run at DC over Marvel, but he also has a fondness looking back at parts of his experience, and he has a thing or two to say about his favorite Marvel movie.
In an interview with GQ, Grillo reflected on his time playing Brock Rumlow in the Captain America movies, stating:
"Crossbones never manifested into what it should have. But Crossbones was cool because he wasn't a superhero, he was just a bad mofo, and he got his licks in. There's not a day goes by where someone isn’t like, 'Crossbones!' And I'm like, Really? That's so f*cking long ago, and it's not that much screen time.
“So it is interesting that it's becoming a legacy thing. My son loves to see where Flag is going, and he's always pulling out comics, 'Dad, they’re bringing Crossbones back, he’s now in Spider-Man,' and I'm like, 'It ain't me, pal—they need a younger Crossbones.'"
When asked about Captain America: The Winter Soldier's iconic elevator scene, Grillo shared his feelings about where things currently stand with the MCU, saying:
"Winter Soldier is the best Marvel movie. I love them over at Marvel, and it's so great to see how successful everybody's become, but I hope that they can get back to the glory of where they were and not just be spectacles that are there to make a lot of money from."
Money has been waning for the studio for some time now, but the next few movies are expected to return Marvel to some of its previous glory.
They’ve already reassessed their release model, and have seemingly refocused their films back to strong characters and storytelling that will draw fans back in, endearing us back to the theatres. Let’s hope so, anyway.
