Frank Marshall Offers Update on INDIANA JONES 5 and Explains Why James Mangold is The Right Director For The Job

Earlier this year, we learned that Lucasfilm and Disney were moving forward with the long-awaited Indiana Jones 5. Harrison Ford is set to reprise his role one more time and director James Mangold (Logan, Ford v Ferrari) replaced Steven Spielberg as the director, which a lot of fans think is a great choice.

During a recent interview with Collider, producer Frank Marshall explained that Mangold and his team have just started work on the script for the film and also explains why the filmmaker is the best person for the job, saying:

“His love of the franchise. He’s a wonderful filmmaker. I think he also has a relationship with Harrison. It was all of the right pieces coming together, at the right time.”

He also offered an update on the development and shares his thoughts on when production will finally be able to begin especially given the world’s current situation:

“The number one thing, obviously, is the safety of everybody – the cast, the crew, and all of us. So, we’re looking at the guidelines that are coming slowly, from the health experts and the studios and the different parts of the business, and we’re just trying to incorporate everything, so we can move forward and be safe. It’s going to obviously slow things down, so we’re trying to adjust. You won’t see a lot of big crowd scenes, for example, for awhile. There won’t be any more craft service, so maybe that’ll be good for people, in keeping more fit. It’s a moving target right now. There are a lot of people working on the solutions, to be able to work and be safe.

It’s going to be interesting to see what this next and possibly final adventure of Indiana Jones will entail. This will most likely be the last time we see Ford in the role of this character, so this next story better be a great one! I’ve got high hopes for this movie and I hope Mangold is able to deliver the level of greatness that fans are expecting.

The highly-anticipated sequel is now scheduled to be released on July 29, 2022.
