Frank Miller Announces SUPERMAN: YEAR ONE, Giving Him a Real Meaningful Crack at Superman

Comic book writer and artist Frank Miller redefined Batman with Batman: Year One and The Dark Knight Returns just announced he's developing Superman: Year One. Like his Batman comics, I imagine this could redefine the character Superman, which is actually kind of fascinating.

During a recent interview with Vulture, Miller opened up a little bit about his new project and reveals that he will retell the Superman origin story... in his own way, of course.

"I’ve got a new Superman project that’s getting started, telling his origins. It’s telling his beginnings from when Pa Kent discovered him in the cornfield, and the little boy goes to youth, and then to manhood."

Miller has done some amazing things with Batman, but until now, he's never had the opportunity to tell a proper Superman story, and he's ready to take a crack at it.

"You know, through Dark Knight I got to touch just about the ones in the DC pantheon but I never had my real meaningful crack at Superman. In the case of DC Comics, which has by far and away the strongest and richest mythology, there are those three fundamental pillars they have of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. All of the other characters, they kind of string along underneath them, which is wonderful."

Miller will definitely write the comic, but there's no word on if he'll do any of the art. Regardless, I'm a huge fan of what Miller has done with Batman, so I'm excited to see what he ends up doing with Superman!

What do you think about Miller taking on Superman?
