Freakin' Amazing Stop-Motion Samurai Short Film HIDARI with a Chainsaw Wielding Samurai!
Holy crap! Have I got an awesome stop-motion animated short film for you to watch today! It’s titled Hidari and it features a chainsaw-wielding Samurai kicking some serious ass!
This film will tell “an action-packed story of ‘Jingoro Hidari,’ a legendary sculptor in the Edo period of Japan, using wooden puppets.” It follows Hidari as he is on a quest for revenge after he’s betrayed by his fellow craftsmen and loses his arm.
Hidari has since replaced his arm with a wood prosthetic, that has built-in contraptions that help him in his fighting efforts as he destroys a legion of bad guys out to kill. The arm is also interchangeable, and at one point he replaces it with a chainsaw arm in which he proceeds to saw through his foes.
I also love that the blood spray is sawdust! If this gets funded, Kawamura hopes to turn Hidari into a fantasy action movie by 2028. When explaining the film, he said:
To make full use of the mystical character of Jingoro Hidari, we plan to weave fiction and actual history into the story (something like a more violent Forrest Gump set in ancient Japan). Actual historical events such as the reconstruction of the Edo Castle, the Keian Uprising, and the Great Fire of Meireki will become backdrops of the events happening within the film. And actual historical characters such as the Shogun Ietsuna Tokugawa, and Yorinobu Tokugawa will play important roles.
The synopsis reads:
A skilled carpenter/sculptor Jingoro, gets set up by his colleagues and loses his right arm and his father in an “accident” during a reconstruction of the Edo Castle. A few decades later… Jingoro is continuing his journey of revenge with his partner “Sleeping Cat” and his weaponized prosthetic arm. People have to call him Jingoro “Hidari",” which means “lefty in Japanese.
Jingoro defeats all the foes that has betrayed him, but he learns that Tokugawa Shogunate was behind the murder. He searches for clues on who was behind the whole setup, and fights with an army of mechanical soldiers along the way. Finally, he confronts the mastermind behind all the killing, but first, he must save the city of Edo by stopping the Edo Castle, now turned into a weapon of mass destruction!
