Freddie Prinze Jr. Has Joined the PUNKY BREWSTER Reboot at the Peacock Streamer

Freddie Prinze Jr., best known for his roles as teen heartthrob in I Know What You Did Last Summer, She’s All That, and Scooby-Doo, has been keeping himself busy the past few years doing a lot of voice work for series like Star Wars Rebels and Robot Chicken. He is now back on the scene in some life action series. We reported earlier this year that he had joined the cast of the upcoming Nancy Drew series, but he has since left that project.

Now he has joined a different series, and that is the Punky Brewster reboot that is coming to the upcoming NBC streamer, Peacock. We know so far that original series star Soleil Moon Frye is reprising her role as the title character, Punky, Cherie Johnson is also coming back in the role of Cherie, and Johnathan McClain (Bizaardvark, Prince of Peoria) has joined the cast.

Here’s the description of the reboot:

The prospective “Punky Brewster” series is described as a multicamera-hybrid continuation of the iconic 80s sitcom about a bright young girl raised by a foster dad. Punky (Soleil Moon Frye) is now a single mother of three trying to get her life back on track when she meets Izzy, a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self.

Variety reports the following character description for Prinze Jr.:

Prinze Jr. will play Travis, Punky’s ex-husband. While a working musician constantly in and out of town, Travis remains a great dad with lingering chemistry between him and Punky.

Sounds like a great match to me. I am slightly interested in this series. I liked the original show as a kid, so as long as this series hits the mark and has great writing, I’d be happy to watch it again. What do you think of the reboot, and this casting choice?
