FRIDAY THE 13TH Sequel Could Explain Jason’s Immortality

Another Friday The 13th sequel is currently in development, and one day we’ll see Jason Voorhees back up on the big screen slashing people up. I didn’t really care for the last movie that was made back in 2009. It was just a cash-grab type of movie, just like this upcoming sequel will most likely be. It’s hard to believe that they will try to do anything new with the character or rebrand the franchise. I imagine that it’s just going to once again follow Jason in the woods killing stupid-ass teenagers. But according to a new interview, they might actually explore the character a little further.

Producer Brad Fuller recently spoke with Esquire and talked about the upcoming sequel, and it sounds like they might actually explore the character’s immortality. Here’s what he said about it:

“There’s always been this supernatural aspect to these movies. It defies logic that, you see Jason get killed in every movie, including ours, the 2009 one. And then he comes back and no one’s ever really investigated what that is. So that’s something that I think about a little bit. Like it is supernatural, but what is he? Those are the things that we’re toying with. Nothing has been decided. But those type of things: How does he always come back?
“People traditionally want to understand exactly how and why things happen, and yet something so odd happens at the end of these movies and no one seems to question it. So people come to the movie with the expectation that the real villain will be killed and come back. And yet we never toyed with that notion….Those are the things that we’re asking ourselves. And we’ll see what comes of it.”

Even though it might be interesting to see what kind of explanation they come up with as to why Jason is the way he is, this is one of those characters in which the mystery behind him makes things more intriguing. There doesn’t really need to be a reason behind Jason's existence to have keep coming back and killing people. That’s what makes him so cool!

Remember when Rob Zombie gave Michael Meyers an origin story in his Halloween remake by basically making him some white trash kid with terrible parents? That took all the fun out of who the character is. Plain and simple, he’s just pure evil. I think the mystery should stay a mystery with these iconic horror charcters. What do you think about the possibility of seeing an explanation of Jason’s immortality?
