FRIENDS Reunion at HBO Max Delayed Indefinitely

It has been sixteen years since the worldwide phenomenon TV series Friends ended, and fans have been hoping for a reunion ever since. At the beginning of this year, we were excited to hear that the friends were reuniting to film a reunion special that would kick off the launch of the streaming service HBO Max, which became available in May. But because the special had been set to shoot in March, right at the start of the pandemic, it got pushed back to the end of the summer. Now that that time is upon us, it has been reported that the special will be pushed back again indefinitely, as it’s just too hard to predict when things can go back to normal these days.

The main reason for this decision, according to WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-to-Consumer chairman Bob Greenblatt, was that they wanted to shoot the special in front of a live audience. He said previously:

“We do think there’s a value to having a big, raucous live audience to experience these six great friends coming back together and we didn’t want to just suddenly do it on a web call with, you know, six squares and people shooting from their kitchens and bedrooms.”

If you packed the studio with fans, it would undeniably have a more special vibe than no audience, or even worse, another zoom meeting. So, no news for now, but we will keep you all posted. I think it is a good decision to wait, and I think it will be really special and fun when we finally do get to see it.
