Full Trailer for DIGGER Unleashes Tom Cruise in the Wildest Role of His Career
"Digger here got us into this mess, and Digger's gonna get dig us out again!"
Warner Bros. has finally released the full trailer for Digger, the long-awaited new film from Alejandro G. Iñárritu, and this movie looks completely unhinged in the best possible way.
Tom Cruise has built a career playing fearless action heroes, elite spies, and larger-than-life icons, but Digger looks like it's taking him somewhere we've never seen before.
This isn't another high-stakes action blockbuster. It's an outrageous, darkly comedic disaster movie packed with political satire, environmental chaos, and a performance from Cruise that looks completely committed to the madness.
The film follows the most powerful man in the world, an arrogant and greedy oil baron named Digger Rockwell, who desperately tries to convince everyone he's humanity's only hope after unleashing a catastrophic disaster.
That disaster comes in the form of a massive apocalyptic Greenland iceberg named Judy that's headed toward total destruction.
The trailer leans all the way into the absurdity as world leaders, wealthy elites, and power players scramble to fix an impossible situation while making everything dramatically worse. It honestly feels like a modern-day Dr. Strangelove filtered through Iñárritu's unique filmmaking style.
Cruise looks like he's having an absolute blast playing Digger Rockwell. It's an energetic, eccentric, larger-than-life performance that feels unlike anything he's done before.
Seeing him embrace this level of satire and comedy while still delivering the intensity he's known for is incredibly exciting. This feels like another level for Cruise as an actor, and I'm all in for it.
The official tagline perfectly captures the movie's wonderfully ridiculous tone: "Digg or die. A man. A plan. A meltdown. Mother Nature loves a winner."
The studio also released the following synopsis: "Introducing... Digger Rockwell. A comedy of catastrophic proportions. The most powerful man in the world (starring Tom Cruise as Digger Rockwell) embarks on a frantic mission to prove that he is humanity's savior before the disaster he's unleashed destroys everything."
The cast surrounding Cruise is just as impressive, featuring Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D'Arcy, Robert John Burke, Burn Gorman, Michael Stuhlbarg, and John Goodman.
Visually, the movie looks spectacular. Iñárritu reunited with legendary cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, marking their first collaboration since The Revenant. The production was shot on 35mm film using VistaVision, and every frame in the trailer has that rich cinematic scale that Lubezki is famous for.
Iñárritu directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman. The filmmaker also serves as a producer alongside Cruise. The project reportedly filmed for six months across the UK between late 2024 and 2025.
Known for acclaimed films like Amores Perros, 21 Grams, Babel, Biutiful, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), The Revenant, and Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths, Iñárritu has never made anything quite like this, and that's part of what makes Digger so fascinating.
The movie looks funny, chaotic, visually stunning, and it’s packed with the kind of fearless storytelling. Between Cruise's insane performance, Iñárritu's direction, and a premise that's gloriously outrageous, Digger looks like it could be one of the most original movies of the year.
Warner Bros. will release Digger in theaters worldwide on October 2, 2026.
