Full Trailer For PREY Sees The Predator Hunt Down Comanche Warriors

20th Century has released a full trailer for director Dan Trachtenberg’s upcoming Predator film, Prey. I’ve actually been pretty excited about this movie! The story is set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago and it sees the Predator hunting down Comanche warriors.

The movie follows a young woman named Naru, “a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.”

The movie has a great visual style, especially with its setting. It also looks like it’s going to feature some cool and exciting action sequences. It’s not necessarily what I hoped it would be, though. It was previously reported that the filmmakers were committed to providing an accurate portrayal of the Comanche and bringing a level of authenticity to the film, one that rings true to its Indigenous peoples.

So, I thought that the characters would actually speak the Comanche language, which would have been cool! But, everyone speaks perfect English and it just pulled me out of it. Watching Camanche warriors from 300 years ago speaking English is just silly to me. I was hoping for something more like Mel Gibson did with Apocalypto.

The production even had Jhane Myers (Monsters of God) on board as a producer. She is an acclaimed filmmaker and member of the Comanche nation herself and “is known for her attention and dedication to films surrounding the Comanche and Blackfeet nations and her passion for honoring the legacies of the Native communities. As a result, the film features a cast comprised almost entirely of Native and First Nation’s talent.”

Maybe the studio told them that the Comanche characters needed to speak English. The movie looks like it will be good and entertaining! I’m definitely going to be watching it, it just didn’t have that one element that I expected it would have.

The film’s cast includes Amber Midthunder (The Ice Road, Roswell, New Mexico), newcomer Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp (Sooyii), Michelle Thrush (The Journey Home), and Julian Black Antelope (Tribal).

Prey will be released exclusively on Hulu on August 5, 2022. Watch the trailer and tell us what you think!
