New Full Trailer for Robert Downey Jr.'s Fantastic-Looking HBO Series PERRY MASON
HBO has released a new full trailer for the Robert Downey Jr.-produced series Perry Mason, and this looks like it’s going to be a great show! I love what I’m seeing from it. I’m a big fan of the gritty, dark tone and the 1930s Los Angeles noir-style setting. This limited series looks like it’s going to deliver the goods, and I’m in!
Matthew Rhys (The Americans) stars in the series as Mason, who is a private eye. “While the rest of the country recovers from the Great Depression, this city is booming! Oil! Olympic Games! Talking Pictures! Evangelical Fervor! And a child kidnapping gone very, very wrong! Based on characters created by Erle Stanley Gardner, this limited series follows the origins of American Fiction’s most legendary criminal defense lawyer, Perry Mason (Rhys). When the case of the decade breaks down his door, Mason’s relentless pursuit of the truth reveals a fractured city and just maybe, a pathway to redemption for himself.”
Downey Jr. developed and produced the series with his wife, Susan Downey. It was co-written by Rolin Jones and Ron Fritzgerald, who are also set as the series’ showrunners. Tim Van Patten directs the series, and he has worked on many popular HBO series such as Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, Sex and the City, and Deadwood.
The series also stars John Lithgow (Pet Sematary, Terms of Endearment, The Crown), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Chris Chalk (Gotham) and Shea Whigham (Homecoming), Nate Corddry (Mom), Veronica Falcon (Queen of the South), Jefferson Mays (I Am The Night), Gayle Rankin (GLOW), and Lili Taylor (Chambers).
Perry Mason debuts June 21st on HBO.
