Fun Behind the Scenes Featurette for GAMES OF THRONES Prequel Series A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS
HBO has released a fun video that dives behind the scenes of the upcoming Game of Thrones universe-set series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The show is based on George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas and takes place roughly ninety years before Game of Thrones.
It follows Dunk, a future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, and Egg, who will one day become King Aegon V Targaryen. Their travels carry them through a Westeros that is still ruled by the Targaryen line and not too far removed from an age of dragons.
As the official description puts it, "Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends."
Martin has said that Season 1 will adapt his 1998 novella The Hedge Knight. Later seasons will move on to The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight, giving fans hope for a full adaptation of the trilogy over time.
This new featurette takes us inside the making of the show, which takes a smaller and more humble approach to Martin’s typical storytelling style, following the endearing and understated character Ser Duncan the Tall, better known as Dunk.
Peter Claffey plays Dunk, and he is joined by his young squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell) as they begin a journey that takes them far away from anything resembling royal grandeur.
Check it out below, and watch A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms when it debuts on HBO and HBO Max on January 18th.
