Artist Kerry Callen is back with another hilarious piece of fan-made comic art, and this one offers the perfect tongue-in-cheek explanation for why Batman eventually became the brooding, stone-faced Dark Knight we all know today.
Titled "Why Batman Doesn't Smile," the comic imagines a lighthearted moment with the Justice League back in the 1980s, where Batman actually lets loose and laughs while telling an absurd story, only for The Flash to snap a photo at the absolute worst moment.
After seeing the less-than-flattering picture, Batman decides that's enough smiling for one lifetime, declaring "Never again" as the comic jokingly transitions into the era of the grim, dark Caped Crusader.
