Funny Take on How The Pitch Meeting For Marvel's HOWARD THE DUCK Went Down
Lucasfilm and Marvel’s 1986 adaptation of Howard The Duck is one of the craziest and weirdest movies. When it came out, audiences hated it and the film crash and burned. Over the years it’s found a cult following, but even many of the fans will admit it’s a terribly made film!
The movie starred Lea Thompson, and in it, Howard the Duck is beamed from Duckworld, a planet of intelligent ducks with arms and legs, to Earth, where he lands in Cleveland. There he saves rocker Beverly (Thompson) from a bunch of goons and forms a friendship with her. She ends up introducing him to Phil (Tim Robbins), who works at a lab with scientist Dr. Jenning (Jeffrey Jones). When the doctor attempts to return Howard to his world, Jenning instead transfers an evil spirit into his own body.
For those of you who are familiar with the film, I’ve got a new Pitch Meeting episode to share with you that I think you’ll get a laugh at, so enjoy!
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken over the global box office in the past decade, but Marvel wasn’t always the cinematic gold mine it is today. In fact the very first Marvel movie that got a theatrical release was so poorly received that they waited more than a decade to make another one. That first movie was Howard the Duck.
The movie definitely raises a ton of questions… Like who is this movie for? Why are we seeing all these duck parts? Why is Beverly attracted to a duck? Why does Howard get a job in an adult spa? Why are there so many duck puns? What was George Lucas thinking? And once again, who is this movie for?!
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the pitch meeting that led to Howard the Duck! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.
