GAMBIT is Still Happening, Aiming to Start Shooting Next Year

Remember that Channing Tatum-led Gambit movie? It was originally scheduled to come out in three months, but due to a couple of director changes, that's no longer happening. But if producer Simon Kinberg is to be believed, the movie itself is still in the works, and is aiming to start shooting next year. He told The Hashtag Show:

“We have a great script on that and hope to shoot that movie at the beginning — or, spring of next year."

Well, that timing should allow director Doug Liman to finish up Chaos Walking before he gets rolling on this one, but I can't imagine that they'll be able to shoot, edit, and do visual effects on the movie in nine months to meet a 2017 release date. In all likelihood, this release date will be delayed again until 2018, maybe hitting in the February spot in which Deadpool performed so well. Not too long ago, Kinberg spoke about how they weren't comfortable with the script, so they were trying to perfect the tone and character of Gambit before they get started on production. That seems like a pretty damn important part of the equation, and it sounds like those issues have been ironed out. So it looks like Gambit will eventually happen, it'll just be the latest victim of the whole "give a movie a release date before it's ready" mentality.
