GAME OF THRONES Actor Ciaran Hinds Cast as Steppenwolf in JUSTICE LEAGUE

It feels like Zack Snyder's Justice League has been filming for a very long time — they started way back in April — and we've known for months that the villain (or at least one of the villains) would be Steppenwolf, a character first bizarrely revealed in a deleted scene from Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year.

But now we know who will be playing that creature in the new film. The Wrap says it'll be Ciaran Hinds, perhaps best known for playing Mance Rayder on HBO's Game of Thrones. The outlet says he'll provide the motion capture work for the character, and it's a pretty good bet he'll also provide his voice as well. He's reportedly already wrapped production on the film, and Steppenwolf will receive an "upgraded" look for the new movie.

In the comics, Steppenwolf is a general who commands Darkseid's army. (You'll probably recall that Darkseid himself was teased in one of BvS's many dream sequences.) So yeah, I can see Hinds out there shouting at troops of Parademons on an intergalactic battlefield. Whether or not the character will have any major physical interaction with the JL is yet to be determined. (Seems like they'd be able to take him out pretty easily, but who knows?) The deleted scene above also shows off three "mother boxes," which will be important to the mythology of the films moving forward and will serve as the MacGuffins of the upcoming movie.

Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017.
