GAME OF THRONES Writer Vanessa Taylor Hired to Rewrite Disney's ALADDIN

Over this past weekend, Disney officially announced the cast for Guy Ritchie's live-action adaptation of Aladdin. It was confirmed that Will Smith will play Genie, Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) will take on the role of Jasmine, and newcomer Mena Massoud will take on the title role.

According to The Tracking Board, Disney is looking to spruce up the script, so they hired former Game of Thrones screenwriter Vanessa Taylor to rewrite it. She will be working from the original script that was written by John August (Big Fish) and director Guy Ritchie.

Disney’s live-action Aladdin draws inspiration from both the 1992 animated classic as well as the folktales of The Thousand and One Nights. Like the animated version, Ritchie’s Agrabah will be a vibrant, cosmopolitan city inspired by locations and cultures from the Middle East to India and China.

Taylor also wrote the script for the upcoming Guillermo del Toro film The Shape of Water. Aladdin is scheduled to begin production in London next month. I'm really curious to see how the movie turns out, and if Ritchie will incorporate his unique style of wild filmmaking.
