Gandalf Is Involved With "Most of the Ideas" for Future LORD OF THE RINGS Films

We know that Ian McKellen has been approached to reprise his role of Gandalf in director Andy SerkisThe Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. This is something that he’s made clear he wants to do.

But, this most likely won’t be the the only future Middle-earth set project that Gandalf is appears in. The Hunt For Gollum screenwriter Philippa Boyens recently revealed in an interview with Empire, that Gandalf is involved with most the film ideas they are developing.

Boyens said: “We’re playing around with a number of ideas, but most of those ideas do include Gandalf. So Gandalf would potentially return for two live-action films.”

It was previously revealed that there are a variety of Middle-earth films being made that will “explore storylines yet to be told.” It seems like Gandalf will have a big future in some of those projects, which is exciting.

He previously said that the script for The Hunt For Gollum should be coming next year and explained: "Well, all I know is that they called me up and said these films were going to happen, that [they're] mainly going to be about Gollum, Andy Serkis who played Gollum is going to direct, and there will be a script arriving sometime in the new year [...] and then I'll judge whether I want to go back."

McKellen continued: "But I would. I would love to go back. I would love to go back to New Zealand, number one. I also don't like the idea of anyone else playing [Gandalf]."

I’m excited about the future of The Lord of the Rings film franchise, and I just hope that WB and the creative teams end up delivering great films that tell incredible stories. It will be awesome to see Gandalf back in action!
