Gary Oldman in Talks for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII?
Since Star Wars: Episode VII was announced we've heard a milllion casting rumors, but nothing has been confirmed. I don't think there will be any kind of confirmation until the full cast is locked in and LucasFilm unleashes everything at once. The most recent rumors include Breaking Bad star Jesse Plemons, Matt Smith, and Benedict Cumberbatch being involved with the movie.
Now is looks like Gary Oldman is in the mix. In a recent interview with Sky News, the actor was asked if he had any interest in joining the new film, and this is what he told them,
"They've called, yeah. I'm more cynical about it (casting) now, I believe it when I'm on the plane home. You know, the deal isn't done (until then). But yeah, they've inquired."
It definitely sounds like he's been in talks with them, and that there's a chance he will be in the film. Oldman is awesome in everything that he does, so of course it would be amazing to see him be a part of the Star Wars universe.
The movie will be directed by J.J. Abrams, who has co-written the film with Lawrence Kasdan. The film is rumored to focus on a new generation of heroes and will most likely include appearances by original cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford. They are expected to start shooting soon, and it will hit theaters on December 18th, 2015.
