Gary Oldman Suggests He Could Return to the HARRY POTTER Universe in TV Reboot: "I Could Do Dumbledore"
Academy Award winning actor Gary Oldman is known for his prolific, sprawling career that has included film and TV roles in projects like The Dark Knight, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Darkest Hour, Mank, Oppenheimer, and most recently, the highly buzzed about series Slow Horses. But for a younger generation, he will always be known as Sirius Black in the Harry Potter film franchise.
The world of Harry Potter is being reimagined in a new HBO series, which will see the books explored more in-depth. There will be a brand new cast who will bring the characters to life, but Oldman is throwing his hat in the ring to return to the franchise.
The actor told IndieWire at the Emmys red carpet that the show’s creative team has not approached him about any roles, he added that he felt his character was not as present in the films as he would have liked him to be — a sentiment long-shared by fans of the magical franchise. He said, “I love Sirius. He wasn’t in it enough. He turned up and then he went through the veil.”
Though the Oscar winner is not expecting any calls soon, perhaps he’ll return on the small screen in another equally beloved role: “I would bet my money that they will get a whole new cast of people,” he said. “Maybe in a few years, I could do Dumbledore.”
I would love to see Oldman take on the beloved role of Dumbledore, although I’d also be happy to see him back as Sirius! He still looks great. I think he could pull it off. I guess we will just have to wait and see how it all pans out. Would you like to see Oldman join the new project?
