Gary Ross to Direct Sandra Bullock in All-Female OCEAN’S 11 Film

George Clooney and Sandra Bullock recently teamed up to develop the film Our Brand is Crisis, which opens this weekend. Before that, they worked together on Gravity. They are now looking to join forces again to develop an all-female version of Ocean’s 11.

Bullock is set to star, Clooney will produce, and Gary Ross (The Hunger Games, Seabiscuit, Pleasantville) is set to direct. It looks like Hollywood is really starting to embrace the concept of gender-swapping roles in films that have traditionally been filled by male actors.

The news comes from The Playlist, which says that the project has been in development since last year. The late producer Jerry Weintraub was working on it with Ocean’s trilogy director Steven Soderbergh. Screenwriter Olivia Milch (Queen & Country, Little Women) has been working on the screenplay for months.

After Weintraub passed away, they didn’t think the project would move forward, but according to an inside source, “the movie is still definitely in the works, and Milch has handed in a draft of the screenplay.” They also reveal that Ross is a longtime friend of Soderbergh, which I wasn’t aware of, and it sounds like Soderbergh is still attached as a producer.

The report goes on to say that “It's unclear how directly connected (or not) this remake/reboot/sequel/spinoff will be to the Soderbergh pictures, but everyone is keen on this new Ocean’s project, and sources tell us Clooney may even cameo as Danny Ocean.” There are no plot details yet, but I’m sure it will revolve around a heist in Las Vegas.

I'm a huge fan of the Ocean's franchise, and if this film has a solid script with great characters like the previous movies, then I'd definitely be interested in seeing it. The fact that Clooney, Bullock, and Soderberg are involved is a huge plus.

This new Ocean’s film is expected to be Ross’ next movie after he finishes The Free State Of Jones, which stars Matthew McConaughey
