Gary Whitta on His Experience Developing the STAR WARS Spin-Off Film

Last month we learned that writer Gary Whitta finished the first script for the first Star Wars standalone film set to be directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), and then he stepped away. There's no official information on what the movie will be about, but rumor has it it could be a bounty hunter heist story.

In a recent interview with Yahoo!, Whitta opened up a little bit about his experience of working on the project. He doesn't go into any detail about the film itself, but apparently it was the experience of a lifetime. This is what he said:

“It was absolutely surreal. I loved every minute of it.
“Star Wars was undoubtedly one of the most important formative influences on me as a child. It’s absolutely one of the main reasons why I became a writer and pursued a career in film, so to have had an opportunity to contribute something to the next chapter of its on-going legacy is just insane. I feel incredibly privileged to have worked on it.
“Every movie is a collaborative process. Star Wars was a little different in that I got to collaborate with people who are heroes of mine, who were part of creating the Star Wars movies I grew up loving. So that was a very special and unique experience for me.”

I hope we get some information on what exactly this spin-off movie will entail soon. I'm really curious to see where Lucasfilm's head is at with these movies outside of the "Episode" saga.
