Geek Art Spotlight: Nan Lawson

Art Nan Lawson by Mily Dunbar

I first came across Nan Lawson’s work on Instagram while she was gearing up for her solo show, Meet Cute, at Gallery 1988. Every piece in that show was a double portrait of a TV or movie couple, and I found them delightful. I loved the way they were both whimsical and depressive. Since then I have been an avid fan and check out her new stuff periodically. Her sense of color is wonderful, and the way she uses negative space is very interesting. Here are few of my favorites, but you can check out more of her artwork on her website. Her shop appears to be empty at the moment, but Gallery 1988 still has a few of her prints available here, including one titled "I'm Burning Up A Sun, Just To Say Goodbye."
