GEN V Star Asa Germann Rumored to Be Battling for Angel After Losing Cyclops in Marvel’s X-MEN Reboot
Marvel’s X-Men reboot may have found another place for Asa Germann after the Gen V star missed out on playing Cyclops. Germann is now rumored to be in the mix for Warren Worthington III, better known to mutant fans as Angel.
It’s an interesting casting pivot. The actor reportedly tested for Scott Summers before Marvel ultimately went with Kit Connor as Cyclops.
The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision newsletter confirmed that Germann auditioned for Cyclops and also noted that Marvel hadn’t commented on whether the actor might be considered for another character.
Now Angel has entered the conversation, and it’s easy to see why Germann could work in the role. Warren Worthington III is one of the original X-Men from the comics, a wealthy young mutant born with massive feathered wings that allow him to fly.
He’s also a character with some pretty wild material waiting for him if Marvel decides to dig deeper into his history.
Warren eventually undergoes a horrific transformation into Archangel, trading his classic wings for metallic ones and becoming a much more dangerous figure. That evolution could give Germann considerably more to play with than simply being the team’s handsome airborne hero.
Fans are already having some fun with the possibility. One reaction to Germann’s potential casting read, “He has a very intimidating facial expression,” while another fan was excited about what they saw as Marvel leaning closer to the comics, saying, “they actually are casting it with comic book accuracy. Amazing.”
Germann certainly isn’t coming into this without genre experience. He broke out playing Sam Riordan in Gen V, where his character became one of the more unpredictable and powerful young Supes at Godolkin University. He later reprised Sam in The Boys, so he already knows his way around superpowered chaos.
His other credits include Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, along with the short films Two Little Boys and Caviar. Germann also jumped into another major genre franchise in 2026 with Scream 7, where he played Lucas Bowden.
Marvel’s new X-Men movie is beginning to take shape as the studio builds its first full mutant team for the MCU. Connor is set to play Cyclops, while Samara Weaving has been cast as Emma Frost. Jake Schreier is directing the film, with Kevin Feige producing.
For now, Germann playing Angel remains a rumor, and Marvel hasn’t officially announced him for the part. Still, moving from a Cyclops audition to Warren Worthington III would be a pretty cool second shot at joining the MCU’s mutant roster.
It might even be the more interesting role. Cyclops is obviously one of the central figures in X-Men history, but Angel comes with the possibility of eventually becoming Archangel, and that opens the door to some seriously badass character development.
Watching Germann take Warren from privileged founding X-Man to the far more frightening Archangel could make for one hell of an MCU arc.
If Marvel really is looking at Germann for Angel, what do you think? Is Warren Worthington III a better fit for him than Cyclops?
