George A. Romero’s Daughter Drops First Trailer for QUEENS OF THE DEAD a Zombie Horror-Comedy
The first trailer for Queens of the Dead has arrived, and it promises a wild blend of glam, camp, and classic zombie carnage.
The film is directed by Tina Romero, daughter of legendary horror master George A. Romero, and it reimagines the zombie genre with a new twist.
The story follows "an eclectic group of drag queens, club kids, and frenemies" who must "put aside their drama and use their unique skills" to survive after their gritty Brooklyn nightclub gets invaded by flesh-hungry ghouls.
Set to a remixed version of Day of the Dead’s iconic theme, the trailer kicks off with Katy O'Brian (Love Lies Bleeding) as Dre, a burned-out party promoter scrambling to keep her event together. "DJ's MIA and the toilet's still clogged," she grumbles to her wife, played by Riki Lindhome (Wednesday), while drag performers bicker backstage about being unprepared.
The chaos only ramps up once the show begins. In the dressing room, Jacquel Spivey’s Sam admits, "I've never had stage fright." To which Nina West’s character fires back, "What do you say you and me, we kill it. There's nothing to be afraid of. Drag is not life or death."
Zombies soon crash the party, and the nightclub transforms into a neon-soaked war zone. The trailer teases plenty of outrageous survival tactics as the queens and their crew fight back using anything they can grab, including glue guns, cocktail shakers, and even hair curlers.
The cast also includes Tomás Matos (Fire Island), Jack Haven (Atypical), Shaunette Renée Wilson (Black Panther), Quincy Dunn-Baker (No Hard Feelings), Dominique Jackson (Pose), Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story), and comedian Margaret Cho.
Packed with glitter, blood, and unapologetic camp, Queens of the Dead looks like it will attempt to breathe some wild new life into zombie horror.
The film hits US theaters on October 24, just in time for Halloween.
