George A. Romero’s DAWN OF THE DEAD is Returning To Theaters For Halloween Thanks To Regal!
George A. Romero‘s classic zombie horror film Dawn of the Dead is returning to the big screen for the film’s 45th anniversary this Halloween season!
The 1978 horror film served as the second installment in Romero's Living Dead series. The plot follows a group of survivors—comprising two television station workers and two SWAT team members—who take refuge in a shopping mall during a nationwide zombie outbreak. As they attempt to make the mall a sustainable sanctuary, they must not only fend off the ever-increasing horde of zombies but also address the threat posed by a gang of hostile bikers. The film also delves into the interpersonal dynamics of the group and the psychological toll of the apocalypse.
What makes Dawn of the Dead such a great film is its commentary on society. Beyond the overt horror of the undead, the movie offers a critique of consumerism, with the mall serving as a metaphor. The zombies, driven by a base instinct, are drawn to the mall—not out of a need for sustenance but out of a residual, mindless drive from their past lives. This underscores the emptiness of consumer culture and the insatiable human desire for more.
Then, of course, the film's combination of gore, suspense, and dark humor, along with its well-developed characters, allows for a narrative depth that fans have enjoyed for years.
Exclusively at Regal, Dawn of the Dead is coming back to theatres October 27! For tickets click here.
