George Clooney Rumored To Reprise Batman Role in DCU
Over the weekend, rumors started spreading on social media that George Clooney would be reprising his role as Batman in the new DC Cinematic Universe. Reports have been pretty persistent on this news, and one fan specifically asked DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn if it was true that he was casting George Clooney as the new main DCU Batman?
In response to that question, Gunn said: “Absolutely not.” The director went on to confirm the next actor to play the Caped Crusader within the DCU will be new to the role. When he initially announced the new Batman movie The Brave and the Bold, I never expected to see a past Batman actor back in the role.
Now, I just want to point out that Gunn is only answering the question in regards to Clooney being cast as the new main Batman in the DCU. It doesn’t address the possibility that Clooney could appear in The Flash movie. With Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck both reprising their role as Batman in The Flash in alternate universes, it’s not too far-fetched to think that maybe Clooney’s Batman could show up in some capacity.
When previously talking about The Brave and the Bold, Gunn said: “So this is the introduction of the DCU Batman, Bruce Wayne, and also introducing our favorite Robin, Damian Wayne, who is a little son of a bitch, assassin murderer, who he unwittingly takes on, who's Batman's actual son that he doesn't know exists for the first eight to 10 years of his life, and he brings into his life and this is a story. It's a very strange sort of father son story about the two of them. And it's based on Grant Morrison's run on the Batman. There's a couple of comic book writers that have been exceptionally influential on our stuff and Grant Morrison and Tom King are probably the two primary ones.”
It’s going to be interesting to see who ends up playing Batman in The Brave and the Bold, but we’ve still got a long wait before that news drops. In the meantime, don’t expect Clooney to be the new Batman!
