George Lucas Cut a Lightsaber Fight Scene From REVENGE OF THE SITH That Would Have Been the Best in the Franchise

While a lot of Star Wars fans bash the prequel trilogy, it did give us some epic lightsaber fight sequences! A lot of fans believe the fight between Darth Maul, Obi-Wan, and Qui-Gon in The Phantom Menace is one of the best in the franchise.

Well, it turns out that there was a lightsaber fight scene planned for Revenge of the Sith that would have been even better, but… George Lucas cut it! This bit of trivia came from stunt coordinator Nick Gillard, who helped choreograph the fights throughout the prequel trilogy.

While Gillard was talking about the fight scene in The Phantom Menace, he revealed that there is “a better one” fans never saw. “A Revenge of the Sith fight in which Obi-Wan takes on six of General Grievous’s bodyguards at the same time.”

Apparently, Ewan McGregor trained for weeks to get the choreography down perfectly for the “complicated sequence”. But production was running short on time, and “since the fight wasn’t essential to the storyline”, Lucas just had Obi-Wan use the Force to crush the guards with a piece of the ceiling.

“It was the most complicated fight we ever did, and George said, ‘I’m really sorry, I’m going to drop a container on five of them!’”

That’s a shame, and I’m disappointed because I would have loved to see this scene! I’m sure it would have been a lot better than this…
