George Lucas Releases Statement on the Passing of Darth Vader Actor David Prowse
Over the weekend we learned that Star Wars actor David Prowse passed away at 85 years old. Fans from all over the world have been paying tribute to the actor, along with several actors and filmmakers who knew Prowse and were inspired by him.
Star Wars creator George Lucas has also released a statement after learning of the actor/bodybuilder's passing, and this is what he said:
“David brought a physicality to Darth Vader that was essential for the character. He made Vader leap off the page and on to the big screen, with an imposing stature and movement performance to match the intensity and undercurrent of Vader’s presence. David was up for anything and contributed to the success of what would become a memorable, tragic figure. May he rest in peace.”
Prowse auditioned for two roles in Star Wars, Chewbacca and Darth Vader. In a 2008 interview with NPR, Prowse shared why he chose to play Darth Vader, saying:
“Well, if you think back on all the movies that you’ve ever seen where there are goodies and baddies…you always remember the baddie.”
We will certainly never ever forget Darth Vader and what the actor brought to bringing that incredible and sinister villain to life.
