George Miller Confirms that Two More MAD MAX Films are in Development

We've known for awhile that George Miller had plans for more Mad Max films. Then after the success of Mad Max: Fury Road, it seemed like it was safe to assume that Warner Bros. would want to move forward on a sequel. While talking to Top Gear, Miller confirmed that two scripts for these sequels have already been completed, and he's talking to the studio about making one of them happen:

“This film [Fury Road] was green lit three times and fell over three times over a decade. We went to shoot with Mel Gibson back in 2001, but then 9/11 happened, and the American dollar collapsed against the Australian dollar close to 30 per cent, so we lost that amount of budget overnight….We were then rained out of Australia. The desert rained for the first time in 15 years, and we ended up in South West Africa, Namibia. But in this process, we had dug down deep into the backstory, not only of the characters, but of every vehicle. How the steering wheels became religious artifacts and things like that. So we ended up with two scripts, without really trying. We’re talking to the studio [Warner Bros] about it as we speak, but which one of the two stories will happen next, I’m not so sure.”

I have no idea when Miller will get around to directing a Mad Max sequel. Last week the filmmaker said that he wanted his next project t be a "very small film." That doesn't seem to fit into the territory of Mad Max territory or the DC Extended Universe. I just hope that we don't have to wait another thirty years before we see the next Mad Max movie.

I honestly don't see why the studio wouldn't want to move quickly on another Mad Max film. It's something audiences would love to see, especially after Fury Road epically exploded in theaters this past summer.
